The Police Pre-Academy Training Certificate is for individuals who seek to become employed as a law enforcement officer in South Carolina and become Class-1 Certified Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) and the Law Enforcement Training Council (LETC) pursuant to South Carolina Code of Laws Chapter 23.

Program Entry Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalency.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age to enter program.

Specific/Special Admission Information

Students should be aware that many positions in the Criminal Justice field require no previous criminal convictions (i.e., DUI, bad check convictions, open container convictions, excessive traffic convictions, etc.). a favorable credit history may also be required as a requirement for employment.

Courses in this program are offered during the evening only. Once admitted, students must earn a grade of “70” or higher on each major exam.
