Berry to serve as Honorary Chair at Golf Tournament

WLTX-TV news anchor J.R. Berry will serve as the honorary chair of the ninth annual Central Carolina Technical College Foundation Golf Tournament to be held October 4 at Beech Creek Golf Course in Sumter, South Carolina.
“I’m thrilled to be involved with the CCTC Foundation as they celebrate nine years hosting this excellent tournament,” Berry said. “It’s one of the best golf events in the area and all of the proceeds stay local to benefit CCTC students.”Berry has called WLTX-TV home since May of 1991.

The Sumter native has been recognized for his work with three Emmy awards and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award. He has also been honored by the Associated Press for Investigative Reporting, Spot News and Documentary work.
From 1997 until September 2002, J. R. anchored News 19’s Morning and Noon News programs. He then moved to the evenings and now anchors News 19 at 6, 7 and 11.

J.R. has received numerous awards and citations for his community service. He enjoys playing golf in his free time and has frequently played in the CCTC Foundation Tournament.
“There is not a more genuine, deserving group for scholarships than the people in our area who are making every effort to raise our standard of living,” said Berry.

The CCTC Foundation has been connecting donors’ charitable intentions to community needs for more than 40 years, awarding more than more than $2.5 million in scholarships to more than 3,500 students.
The tournament registration fee is $75 and includes golf, lunch and an awards celebration.
