CCTC brings employees back to campus in phased approach

SUMTER, SC — Central Carolina Technical College will continue to bring employees and eventually students back to campus using a three-stage phased approach for safety purposes.

Phase one began in late May when a limited number of faculty and staff returned to CCTC campuses to implement new procedures and make changes necessary for limiting the risk of COVID-19 spreading in offices, classrooms and common areas.

Phase two of the plan will begin Monday, June 8 with staff and limited faculty returning to campus. During this week, the public or students will not immediately be back on campus. College staff will implement a new virtual waiting line/appointment system called QLess to plan structured visits as opposed to normal open office hours.

Beginning Monday, June 15, college staff will utilize QLess to allow the public and students on campus for student services. Some face-to-face classes may resume if the situation allows. Students will be notified through their course instructor of the specific return date, room assignment and any other required procedures for the class. Priority will be given to classes that have hands-on components or labs. The CCTC Bookstore will implement the QLess system during this phase as well.

If all goes well during phase two, the college expects to move to phase three on Monday, July 6. CCTC reserves the right to change dates or extend phases based on any issues that may arise.

Preparations to ensure the safety of all on campus include new safety and directional signs, reconfiguration of desks, protective barriers in high-risk areas, personal protective equipment for employees and required safety training for CCTC employees and students.

Fall 2020 registration is open now with classes scheduled to begin August 24. Potential students, current students, parents or guests can choose multiple options for talking with Admissions counselors by visiting the cctech.staging.wp.collegeinbound.com website. Chat sessions and phone calls are monitored by CCTC staff.

Employees will continue to practice social distancing and limit the number of students or visitors in each area according to current guidelines. CCTC operating hours will continue to be 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday until further notice.
