CCTC holds Youth Apprenticeship Signing Day

South Carolina’s high school students have the unique opportunity to participate in a Youth Apprenticeship program through Central Carolina Technical College and businesses. The Youth Apprenticeship program combines high school curriculum and career and technology training with critical on-the-job training performed at a local business. Students can earn a paycheck through part-time work while earning a national credential in one of many high-demand occupations. “Youth apprenticeships are a great way for high school students to learn more about manufacturing and earn college credit through CCTC. It is vital to the industry to expose young people to the career paths available in manufacturing. CCTC is excited to launch this program and appreciate BD and SKF for providing the students with this great opportunity,” says Dean of Workforce Development & South Carolina Environmental Training Center Elizabeth Williams.

Five students from Sumter and Manning counties will participate in a Youth Apprenticeship program with CCTC alongside BD and SKF in Sumter. Cameron Weston, Tripp Hudson, Cole Bentley and Marlon Carter will finish their high school diploma, earn college credits in the Mechatronics Fundamentals Certificate program at CCTC while also working part time at BD. Shawn Tucker will finish his high school diploma, earn college credits in the Basic Machining and CNC Fundamentals Certificate program at CCTC while working part time at SKF.

Those partnering with CCTC through this program are Sumter Economic Development, The Link, Apprenticeship Carolina, Sumter County School District, Clarendon County School District 2, BD and SKF.
