CCTC named “Military Friendly School” for ninth year
Central Carolina Technical College has been designated a Military Friendly® School (Silver Level) for the ninth consecutive year. The Military Friendly® School designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation.
Now in its 10th year, the Military Friendly® Schools list has come to set the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. This prestigious list provides a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families using data sources from federal agencies and proprietary survey information from participating organizations.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a survey completed by the school. More than 1,000 schools participated in the 2020-2021 survey, with 625 schools earning the designation from every state in the country. The 2020-2021 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list can also be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
CCTC serves approximately 400 active duty military members, dependents and veterans. To allow for greater academic flexibility for unpredictable military schedules, classes are offered in a variety of formats. Other CCTC resources include:
- An Admissions Specialist at the Shaw AFB Education Center Site
- A Veterans’ Affairs Representative on the Main Campus
- A Veterans Resource Center, which offers a variety of academic and career services in an environment where active duty, dependents and veteran students can socialize with fellow military students
- An active chapter of the Student Veterans of America on campus
- The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program*
CCTC has ample financial aid resources available to military students as well. Active Duty military and their family members are afforded in-state tuition status, which makes them eligible for a variety of grants and scholarships, and through CCTC’s memorandum of understanding with the Department of Defense, the college participates in the Tuition Assistance Program for active duty members and the MyCAA program for military spouses.
“We provide many services for our active military and dependent students in effort to ease access to the college and to make the transition from military life to civilian life for veterans. These services, in addition to many others, are why we have been recognized as a Military Friendly School for the ninth consecutive year. We are so very proud to serve our military population,” says CCTC’s Vice President of Student Affairs Lisa Bracken.
