Central Carolina Technical College celebrates nearly 600 new graduates

Central Carolina Technical College held two commencement ceremonies Friday, May 8 at Sumter Civic Center to accommodate nearly 600 graduates.

The 10 a.m. ceremony was for students graduating from Business and Public Service programs. The 3 p.m. ceremony was for students graduating from General Education, Health Sciences, and Industrial and Engineering Technology programs. Biology instructor Max Weber delivered the keynote address. He was honored by the South Carolina Technical Education Association this year for his outstanding service and achievement.

English instructor Timothy Midgette was honored during the morning commencement ceremony as this year’s recipient of the E.C. “Red” Kneece Teaching Excellence Award. Midgette is consistently spoken of as one of the best instructors on campus by students and fellow faculty and regularly volunteers and participates in college-related and community service activities.

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis was honored with an Outstanding Alumni Award during the morning service. Dennis graduated from CCTC with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology in 1989, and furthered his education by earning a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University in 1991 and a Master’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 2006 from Troy University.

Honorable Catherine F. Harris, Judge of Probate for Lee County, was also honored with an Outstanding Alumni Award during the afternoon service. Harris graduated from CCTC with an Associate Degree in Paralegal in 1995, and continued her education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Limestone College in 1996.
