Two CCTC honor students named to SC academic team

Two Central Carolina Technical College honor society students named to South Carolina academic team

Sumter, S.C. – Two Central Carolina Technical College students joined South Carolina’s 2016 Phi Theta Kappa All-State Academic Team: Ashley Coker and Jimmy Griffin were honored by the South Carolina Technical College System at the Capital City Club in Columbia on March 2.

CCTC President Tim Hardee presented the two students with a medal and a certificate. “It’s always a pleasure to recognize the hard work of a student. Ashley and Jimmy are shining examples to their peers and proudly represent CCTC,” said Hardee.

Following the awards ceremony, the honorees and their guests were invited to a SC Legislative luncheon. The 16 colleges that comprise the South Carolina Technical College System were in attendance, promoting their various programs and information. CCTC’s Industrial and Engineering Technology Dean Brent Russell and CCTC Mechatronics student and Continental Tire apprentice Jimme Sanders manned the CCTC display and spoke to attendees about the College’s advanced manufacturing programs.

Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two-year college, conducts a program each year to honor outstanding students from technical, junior and community colleges nationwide. South Carolina’s team members have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and an impressive record of service to their colleges.

Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.
