Central Carolina Technical College’s online and hybrid courses meet quality design requirements as outlined in the College’s Quality Course Standards and Instructional Design Standards, and meet departmental and peer review approval. The Course Quality Standards are provided below.
- Course Home Page contains a Welcome Announcement with the following information: course introduction, instructor name, course begin/end dates, and instructions to go to Content to begin.
- The Overview includes the following statement: “Welcome! Begin by clicking on the first module, Start Here.”; the first module under Content is labeled “Start Here”, has meeting times and delivery methods in the module description (under module title), and includes only the following: Welcome letter/video; College Information and Policies; the current course syllabus; and Class Calendar and Due Dates. The second module under Content is labeled “My Instructor” and includes the following: instructor name and photo; contact information (office location, telephone); availability (office hours/virtual office hours); instructions to use D2L email from the Classlist (no email hyperlinks). The third module under Content is labeled “Essential Resources” and includes information about the D2L Brightspace Orientation course, contact information for student support services, and any other relevant course information or materials. The fourth module under Content is labeled “Zoom” (if Zoom is used in the course) and includes Zoom meeting links, information, and recording links.
- Course results in learning objectives/competencies appropriate to the program; the course is equivalent (same objectives/competencies) to an on-campus course.
- All course Modules are complete for the course, are presented in a weekly (or other appropriate) format, have begin/end dates in the module titles; and contain the following: student learning outcomes and instructions for the module; Learning activities such as: pre-assessment, assigned reading, instructional video, etc. as needed. If publisher resources are used (i.e. ALEKS, Paradigm, McGraw-Hill, etc.), provide links and clearly explain how to access the external resource as a separate module or added individual content modules.
- Course provides opportunities for students to interact with the instructor and with other students through email, discussion board, chat sessions, web-conferencing, etc. and students are encouraged and/or required to participate in course or group communications.
- Instructor communicates that he/she will provide prompt and regular feedback; communicates response times for course work, email and discussion board messages, etc. (Note: Response time should be 24 hours for email and discussion board postings and within one week of due date to tests/general assignments and within two weeks of due date for major projects/papers.)
- Assessment methods are matched to course objectives/competencies and online assessment tools are used where feasible in order to accommodate remote testing and remote proctored testing. (Examples include online quizzes, surveys, self-assessments and practice tests, writing assignments, electronic presentations, portfolios, projects, papers, video-recorded submissions of presentations, etc. Group projects are also encouraged.)
- Course adheres to FERPA, Copyright, and Accessibility requirements.
- The grade book is set up and agrees with the evaluation method as stated in course syllabus.
- The attendance register is set up using the current scheme, includes dates and assignment names, and agrees with the attendance measures defined in the course syllabus.
