FERPA:
Central Carolina Technical College protects the privacy of all students, including distance education students, through the strict adherence to the rules of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). The official FERPA statement is available for student and public view through the Central Carolina Technical College website. (FERPA)
Secure Login and Password:
Central Carolina Technical College issues each student a unique 9-digit ID at the time of acceptance to the college and each college employee upon date of employment. The college wide IDs become the unique identifier for all individuals throughout their academic and professional career at Central Carolina Technical College. In addition, students and employees are issued a unique username and randomly generated password for access to the myCCTC portal and college mobile application. Distance courses are housed within the D2L Learning Management System (LMS). Students and faculty access D2L using secure single-sign-on (SSO) from the myCCTC portal. D2L is a secure environment for faculty members to post assignments and exams while ensuring privacy of individual student assessments and grades. D2L is committed to maintaining system security. D2L’s privacy statement is available for student and public view through the D2L website. (https://www.d2l.com/security/policies/) In addition to SSO, students and faculty may set a password to log directly into the D2L website. The combination of username and password identifies faculty and students to the system on each subsequent course visit. Students and faculty are instructed to safely secure their username/passwords and they accept responsibility for the security of their personal passwords.
Verification of Student Identity:
In addition to secure login credentials, the College employs methods to verify the identity of the student to ensure that the student who registers in a distance education course is the same student who participates in and completes the course and receives the credit. An online proctoring service is provided by the College at no charge to the student. If a student requests to take a proctored assessment for an online or hybrid course, they may test at one of Central Carolina Technical College’s testing centers at no additional charge. If a student chooses to take an assessment at a location other than one of Central Carolina Technical College’s testing centers, the institution where proctoring is provided may charge a fee and the student is responsible for these fees which may vary from site to site.
