South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) is the administrator for South Carolina state employee insurance and retirement benefits. PEBA offers comprehensive insurance coverage. Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability, Dependent Care and Medical Spending Accounts are available for voluntary enrollment for eligible employees.

Paid Time Off

Annual Leave: Full-time Equivalent (FTE) staff earn annual leave at a rate of 9.38 hours for each month of continuous employment. Employees must be in paid status at least ½ of the workdays of the month to accrue leave for that month. After ten years of service, employees will see increased leave accruals. Depending on service years, accruals range from 9.38 hours to 18.75 hours per month. A maximum of thirty (30) days of annual leave may be taken in a calendar year and a maximum of forty-five (45) days of annual leave may be carried over each year.

Faculty Non-Work Days: Full-time Equivalent (FTE) faculty receive 23 faculty non-work days per academic year. Bonus days are granted based on years of service:

10 years, but less than 15 years1 additional day
15 years, but less than 20 years2 additional days
20+ years3 additional days

Sick Leave: Permanent, full-time faculty and staff earn sick leave at a rate of 9.38 hours for each month of continuous employment. Employees must be in paid status at least ½ of the workdays of the month to accrue leave for that month. A maximum of one hundred eighty (180) days sick leave may be carried over each year.

Family Sick Leave: Employees may use up to 75 hours of their accrued and available sick leave in the year to care for immediate family members. In this case, “immediate family” means the employee’s spouse and children and the following relations to the employee or the spouse of the employee: mother, father, brother, sister, grandparent, or legal guardian and grandchildren.

Funeral Leave: Employees are allowed up to 3 consecutive days of leave with pay upon the death of immediate family members. In this case, “immediate family” is defined as the spouse, great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, legal guardians, brothers, and spouse of brothers, sisters, spouse of sisters, children, and spouse of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren of either the employee or the spouse.

Jury Duty: Employees summoned as a member of a jury panel will be granted leave with pay. The employee must provide a copy of the legal documentation requiring their presence in court to HR.

Employee Resources

Central Carolina Technical College has established its wellness program, fitCentral, to improve the health and wellness of all CCTC employees. The goals of the program are to:

  • Teach employees how to improve their health
  • Increase the number of employees who practice healthy lifestyles
  • Encourage regular health screenings
  • Raise awareness and change environments so employees are at a lower risk of developing health problems
  • Encourage employees with health risk factors to make changes to improve their quality of life

Meru Health offers a 12-week treatment program at no cost to State Health Plan primary members to reduce anxiety, stress, depression and burnout. It combines therapist and psychiatrist support, a biofeedback training device, anonymous peer support, meditation practices and habit-changing activities.
