Admissions Policy, Requirements and Procedures

Central Carolina Technical College is an “open door” institution serving the educational needs of all who can benefit from its courses and programs. Central Carolina makes every effort to minimize geographic, financial, and scholastic barriers to the programs and services offered by the college. A high school diploma (or GED certificate) is not a prerequisite for college admission but is required for selected program admission and all forms of financial aid.

The definition of “open door admission” implies the college’s commitment to assess student potential and to provide appropriate developmental/transitional courses that will prepare students for collegiate level courses and programs. The definition further implies that consistent with accrediting agencies and boards, some associate degree programs may require students to possess a valid high school diploma, GED, certificate, and/or demonstrate their ability to make satisfactory progress in a given course or program admission.

In order to apply to CCTC, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be at least 18 years old or possess a high school diploma from an accredited high school or GED certificate. Non high school graduates may be admitted to the college with appropriate test scores. In order to receive financial assistance, a high school or GED transcript must be provided. • If you have been homeschooled, you must contact the Admissions Office for specific admissions guidelines and procedures for homeschooled students.
• If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 or have dropped out of high school, you must obtain written permission from the high school principal in the area in which you reside.
• If you apply for an associate degree program, you must submit an official high school transcript or evidence of a GED certificate. Official transcripts must be on file by the completion of the first semester.
• Meet Residency and Lawful Presence requirements.
• Meet the minimum placement requirements for admissions.

  • Applications are only valid for the semester a student is seeking admissions.
  • Students returning after one year may be required to complete a new application and meet with a financial aid counselor before returning.
• Submit a copy of a state-issued driver’s license or identification card.
• Meet minimum placement requirements in Reading, English/Writing, Math and Technology through exemption and/or college placement testing for admissions.

If you have earned an associate degree or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university, you must request that an official copy of your transcript be sent to Student Records. You may bring an unofficial transcript for review by your admissions counselor or the Registrar, but credit will not be applied until you have been accepted to the college and an official copy of the transcript is on file and evaluated. (You must still meet all course requirements for the program in which you wish to enroll).

If you have attended regionally accredited colleges or universities or Military Service Schools, you must request that an official copy of your transcript be sent to Student Records. You may bring an unofficial transcript for review by your Admissions Counselor or the Registrar, but credit will not be applied until you have been accepted to the college and an official copy of the transcript is on file and evaluated. (You must still meet all course requirements for the program in which you wish to enroll).

If you have taken AP, IB, CLEP, DSST tests and/or completed articulation competency, experiential learning professional certification, and proficiency tests for advanced standing, you must request that an official copy of your documentation be sent to Student Records. You may bring unofficial documents for review by your Admissions Counselor or the Registrar, but credit will not be applied until you have been accepted to the college and an unofficial copy of the appropriate documents are on file and evaluated.

If you have taken the ACT or SAT within the last five years of the term you plan to attend, you must request the official score report to be sent to Admissions at admissions@cctech.staging.wp.collegeinbound.com. Students may also print the score report while with the admissions counselor for review.

If you have graduated from a valid high school with a standard South Carolina High School Diploma within the last five years, you must request an official final high school transcript be sent to Admissions at admissions@cctech.staging.wp.collegeinbound.com. The final official high school transcript must have a South Carolina Uniform Grading Scale, UG GPA, GPA, ranking, course name, credit unit, a numerical grade for courses, school or association name and address, and official signature.

If you have taken courses at the college, the Admissions Counselor will evaluate your previous coursework and determine any exemptions and placement.

CCTC’s official placement test for admissions is the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER test. Student may need to take the full placement test (Reading, Writing, Math, and Technology) or a portion depending on exemptions received. If you have taken the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER or ACCUPLACER test previously at CCTC or at another college within the last five years, the Admissions Counselor will review those scores. If you have taken the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER and ACCUPLACER test at another college, you must submit the official score report to Admissions or email admissions@cctech.staging.wp.collegeinbound.com.
