Central Carolina Technical College awarded $10,000 grant from Gene Haas Foundation
SUMTER, SC — On January 30, 2017, Central Carolina Technical College’s Machining and CNC Technology program was awarded a check for $10,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation. Gene Haas founded Haas Automation, Inc. in 1983 and is currently the largest machine tool builder in the western world. Haas’ commitment to US manufacturing led to the development of his foundation that focuses on granting funds to help expand Machining and CNC Technology programs.
The check was presented to Industrial and Engineering Technology Dean, Brent Russell and Machine Tool Academic Program Manager, Eddie Humphries. “This grant will enhance CCTC’s current Machining and CNC Technology Program in many ways, the biggest being scholarships for those students who are interested in this career but need financial support.” Humphries said. All scholarships are handled by the CCTC Foundation Scholarships.
CCTC’s Basic Machining and CNC Fundamentals Certificate develops skills in basic machining and computer numerical control (CNC) operations. Due to the fast-growing nature of industrial technology, those who have developed skills in CNC operations are in demand. CNC operators enjoy job security as well as good wages. CNC opportunities abound, including the following types of positions: machine shop apprentice, tool room machinist apprentice, maintenance machinist, production machine operator, tool and die apprentice, machinery sales and service and CNC operator.
