Local student excels in CCTC Dual Enrollment Program

SUMTER, SC — This Saturday, June 4, Zach Davis is graduating from Manning High School, fifth in his class and with 30 college credits on his transcript. Zach is one of many local high school seniors who will graduate this year with college credits on their transcript thanks to Central Carolina Technical College’s Dual Enrollment program.

Zach began taking courses his junior year after his guidance counselor informed him of the great opportunity. He took classes online at the F.E. DuBose Campus in Manning and in-person at the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center (AMTTC) in Sumter. “Juggling the traveling and my regular high school workload was difficult, but without hard work you can’t get anywhere in life,” says the bright young man.

With the credits he earned while still in high school, Zach will graduate from CCTC next May with an Engineering Graphics Technology Associate Degree in Applied Science. He is currently enrolled, tuition-free, in Summer Semester classes at CCTC through the Central Carolina Scholars initiative. He plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Clemson and one day a master’s degree in Engineering Graphics Technology, a career field he didn’t know existed until he attended CCTC. Graduates of CCTC’s Engineering Graphics Technology Program have an average starting salary range of $40 to $60K a year.

He’s a natural and understands the process from blueprint to finished product. He’s hard working, eager and willing to help others. I think CCTC’s Dual Enrollment program is essentially helping students, like Zach, build a solid educational foundation for their future.”
